Congratulations to CPBR's 2016 Sammy Pierce Scholarship Recipients
By Helen Wachtel, Chair
CPBR Sammy Pierce Memorial Scholarship
Thank you Crown Point Realtors® and Affiliates for your continued support and participation in the CPBR Sammy Pierce auctions. To me, the auction is always a highlight of the meetings, not only because of the suspense of not knowing what will be auctioned, but particularly due to our funny and charismatic auctioneer, Phil Atwood, and his lovely assistant, ‘Vanna’ (played by Joe Karl.) The good-natured banter (and ultimate caving in to their charms to go ‘just a little higher’) always leaves a smile on my face and a good feeling inside, knowing that our efforts are for a good cause.
This fundraising event is truly heartwarming and heartfelt. It’s also so wonderful to meet our students in person and to share in their excitement at starting a new chapter in their lives. We empty-nesters are lucky to get to live vicariously through these young people, the children of our friends and neighbors. They are our future. Please know that the recipients, their families and their teachers have asked me to pass on their thanks to each and every one of you for giving their children this opportunity. So, here is a big thank you! This year’s Scholarship winners are both graduating seniors from Green Mountain Union High School.
Sarah Martel from Proctorsville: Sarah is enrolled at the University of Southern Maine, and pursuing a degree in nursing. She is the 2016 GMUHS Class President and captain of the Varsity Soccer team, and was nominated for All State in her senior year. Sarah is a member of the National Honor Society. Throughout high school, she was a Rotary officer and Chester Interact member, as well as a junior Auxiliary Member (9 years) at the American Legion Post 36 in Ludlow. She has volunteered in a variety of capacities. Sarah served in a leadership role working with children in the community on crafts and other activities. She has helped with yard work for local Rotarians, and has coordinated and participated in sales, races and raffles to raise money for local organizations. Her personal favorite activity – Wrapping and delivering Christmas gifts to children at the Kurn Hattin Homes, and seeing their joy and excitement. Sarah loves being around children, which has inspired her to pursue a degree in pediatric nursing.
Heather Morse from Chester: Heather will be attending the University of Vermont, majoring in journalism, communications and film studies. Heather was the recipient of the Green Mountain Gold Award for Academic Excellence and the Wellesley College Book Award. She represented her high school at the district level in both theater and band and later on at the state level in theater. She has attended Upward Bound every summer and participated in many community service projects working with children and animals, performing manual labor on farms, assisting librarians, doing secretarial work, promoting community events and donating to charities. Her favorite volunteer experience was one through Upward Bound at the Brigham Hill Community Farm in North Grafton, MA. They harvested, cleaned, and boxed a variety of crops destined for a community food shelf to be distributed to families in need.
CPBR MLS Paragon Training – August 23
The official Crown Point Board training on the new Paragon MLS program will take place on August 23rd from 1-3 pm. This class will offer 2 credits. Every licensee should plan to take this training class. If you cannot attend this class, other classes have been scheduled throughout the state. For a list of classes, visit the Vermont Realtors® calendar of events here. Unlicensed administrators may attend as well.
Following is an overview of Paragon highlights discussed at the August 10 NEREN Board meeting:
- Contacts (formerly called Prospects) can no longer be added/modified in Innovia and must be added in Paragon.
- Listings will be entered in Innovia until September 23rd. They will be updated to Paragon every 15 minutes.
- Attachments added to listings in Innovia will be updated to Paragon once a week.
- September 24th and 25th there will be no edits to listings in Innovia.
- September 26th, switchover to Paragon is complete. Listings will now be entered into Paragon.
- September 30th, the lights go out on Innovia!!
- Paragon on mobile devices will be available after September 26th.
- The Prospects have been moved over to Paragon and are now called Contacts; however the criteria of their searches did not go over and must be entered into Paragon. Once you have created the saved search in Paragon, you will want to delete it in Innovia or your clients/customers will be getting two emails with the information.
- You will want to check your listings in Paragon to be sure they transferred correctly.
- Paragon Academy (found on the MLS “dashboard”) offers 6 courses and takes about 3 hours to complete.
Change is always daunting. This program is very customizable. You can use it right out of the box or you can customize the program to meet your needs.
